Gore

On Sunday February 10th we decided to go to church in Gore where our friends the Chesleys,  who were transferred from the north island, are serving as Branch President.  He said that if we attended we would double their attendance.  The branch is all women over 55 who are either divorced or widowed.  These are the younger missionaries who are currently serving in this area.

Elder Chelsey was right about the attendance.  There were 12 missionaries and 8 members.  Elder and Sister Shepherd were also visiting from the north island and had served with the Chelseys while there and Elder and Sister Webb had come from Dunedin to speak at church for their District Meeting.

After church we travelled the Southern Scenic Route to return to Dunedin.  This is one of the many beautiful waterfalls in New Zealand.

Nugget Lighthouse is located on the southern tip of the south island.  The only way to reach it is by hiking.

I wanted to see a penguin in the wild before we left New Zealand and there are places that you can pay to see them come on shore.  They usually come in the morning before 7:00 a.m. or at night after 7:00 p.m.  However, this little guy was all by himself.  He looked so lonely so hopefully later more came to join him.

He was a yellow-eyed penguin and they are usually very small.
