Don and I decided to make one last trip to California for Dominic's 6th birthday and a 5k run/walk sponsored by the City of Cyress which is also where Kristina works.
For Dominic's birthday Kristina thought it would be fun to go to the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood to see Cars 2 in 3D. The tickets included the show and a miniature amusement park centered around the Cars movie. We all took trains in to Hollywood to see the show because the 405 freeway was shut down for a bridge demolition. Kevin's family, Kristina and Don and I took the train from Long Beach and Kirk and Rebecca took the Metrolink from Fontana.
Cars 2 was shown in 3D and the kids didn't like wearing the glasses but they still seemed to enjoy it a lot and it was very good. Afterwards we went to a back lot where the amusement park was located. They had replicas of some of the famous cars from the movie. They had slides,a playground, small trikes to ride and other cars related activities. The grandkids had a lot of fun.
Then on Sunday we got together at Kevin and Jeanette's to eat dinner and open presents for Dominic. They also had a pinata filled with candy for the kids to hit.
On Saturday July 23rd Don and I participated in the Cyress 5k run/walk. Don ran the 5k race and I walked in it. The race started at 7:30 a.m. so it was still cool outside. Don wanted to break a time of 30 minutes and he did it in a little over 28 minutes. It was fun participating in this race because of Kristina working with the City of Cyress and being involved in the race and the festival. It was well planned. There was the race in the morning and then a pancake breakfast followed by the festival.
We came home July 24th and now have less than a month until we enter the MTC.
Our farewell is scheduled for August 14th so we will be able to see all our children and grandchildren one more time before we leave for New Zealand.
